MTS are great for stirring up and aerating the substrate whilst eating detritus and leftover food which is beneficial for plants and fish. They're also very good at eating certain types of algae especially diatoms and dust algae.

They are relatively easy to care for, but proper water parameters are still important. A preferred temperature range of 18-28°C although they handle cooler water and a pH of 6.4-7.5 are generally recommended. They can be kept in both coldwater and tropical aquariums.
